The Propeller Club
The Propeller Club Globally
The International Propeller Club, founded in New York in 1927, has around 8,000 active members at more than 65 ports around the world.
Its aim is the promotion of the merchant navy, this being a prerequisite for the development of international trade and the coordination of the various players involved in the different fields of maritime activity: logistics, shipbuilding, ports, agents, shipowners, charterers, traders, and the people who finance and insure them. The Club promotes cooperation and the exchange of information.
Today, the Propeller Club has spread across the world, increasing its international influence and the non-american clubs now represent around a quarter of the total number, dedicated to promoting the maritime industry, commerce, and global trade. The club’s name, “Propeller,” symbolizes the propulsion of ships and serves as a metaphor for driving the growth and strength of the merchant marine sector – both overseas and domestically.

The Propeller Club in Europe
In Europe the Propeller Club has members spread across the following ports: Algeciras, Barcelona, Bilbao, Casablanca, Castellon, Dakar, Dunkerque, Istanbul, Le Havre, Limassol (Cyprus), Lorient Port-Louis, Lugano, Lyon, Madrid, Marseille, Monaco, Nantes Saint-Nazaire, Oslo, Piraeus (Athens), Pointe à Pitre (Guadeloupe), Rouen, Saint Malo, Sete, Sevilla, Strasbourg, Valencia, Varna (Bulgaria), and Vigo.
The European Clubs often engage with one another through joint meetings and events, including the annual Maritime Days. The first Maritime Day was organized in Le Havre in 1993, and since then, representatives of the Propeller Clubs have regularly participated in the two-day congress and conference.
Annual Convention: Each year, directors of the U.S. and European Propeller Clubs gather for the International Propeller Club Convention, hosted by a different Club in turn. This event brings together leaders and members to strengthen connections across the global maritime community.
The Propeller Club in Norway
Norway has been deeply tied to the sea for centuries. Our maritime community is diverse and includes everything from shipping and offshore energy to aquaculture, shipbuilding, maritime finance, technology, and policy.
In September 2024, we were honored to establish the Propeller Club of Norway: Port of Oslo as the first of its kind in Scandinavia and the Nordic region. Our mission is to serve as a welcoming bridge between maritime professionals in Norway and globally.
Reflecting Norway’s values of openness, innovation, and sustainability, the Club aims to bring together members from deep-sea shipping, short-sea trade, ports, offshore wind, aquaculture, maritime services, legal and financial sectors, technology, and public institutions.
